HOMEWORK

There are two main types of homework I send out every week with students.  Number one is our Language Arts homework packet.  This goes home every Monday (or the first day of that school week) and is due on Friday.  REMEMBER that every night in order to complete the Language Arts packet, students must read for 20 minutes and fill out the reading log with your initials!  This is JUST as important as the worksheets in the packet.  The second type of homework is Math homework that goes home every night or every other night of the week (even on Friday night) and is due the very next school day.  This gives students the opportunity to practice being responsible throughout the week in order to help build their character.  There will be at least 2 or 3 times during the school year where in lieu of a "normal" Language Arts homework packet I will be sending home information students need to research for a Project Based Learning assignment they will research at home and then bring back to school to write about.  I will send home a note with this packet to explain detiails of each project when the time comes as well as update this part of the website accordingly.

Trimester One Smart Goals

These are goals we set as a grade level for 6 weeks based on the Essential Standards test results students take in the beginning of the year.  We focus on these skills throughout the day and during Eagle Hour.

Math:

Math Homework: (9/30/15) None

ELA Homework: (9/30/15)  Howework packet due Friday.(Paquetes de tarea para Viernes : Recordatorio .)

For tonight: read "Sun and Rain" two times. Sign the book after each reading.

Reminder: Homework packets due tomorrow.

(Para esta noche : lectura de "Sun and Rain" dos veces. Firme en el libro después de cada lectura .)

***Fluency Packet***    This STAYS AT HOME.  It is for you to time your child for one minute at a time and have he or she read faster.  A total of 3 times is what we will be doing in class, but if he or she wants to do more than that it is fine.  The goal is to get their reading down so it sounds like natural speech.  If your child zips through Trimester 1 very quickly, please let me know and I will send home more challenging passages.  To use this for the reading log, please write down the final number of wpm (words per minute) your child read on a passage.  Each line of the passage is numbered for you to make it easier to count.

***A master Turtle Word List was sent home 8/25/15.  Please refer to the level your child has tested at.  Our aide will test your child every week until he or she passes level 13.  Keep this master list at home in a safe place.  Your child will also bring home the current list he or she is working on every week with words circled that need to be practiced.***

Trimester One PBL

Every trimester my class works on project-based learning (PBL).  Sometimes it is all done in class and sometimes we send home some research for homework before completing the end project.
